What is Science?

Science is the systematic observation of things that exist or happen in the universe around us. If you carefully watch butterflies and study what they do, you are doing science. Because of your study you will know more about butterflies. You can draw conclusions about butterflies (they drink nectar) and test your conclusions (watch flowers to see how often butterflies drink from them).

If you study butterflies just to learn about them, you are doing what is known as "pure science". If you study them to make it easy for you to catch them, you are doing "applied science".

Science is a method of learning. Another method of learning is to learn from what other kitties tell you. The difference is that in science you find out for yourself if what you have been told is really true.
